Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were visibly distraught after losing the ODI World Cup 2023 final, as pictures of both players walking past the trophy went viral. The Indian team put in a near-perfect performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, the 'Men in Blue' stayed unbeaten throughout the group stage of the competition, winning nine out of nine games, and stayed at the helm of the points table.

Furthermore, the side broke their Kiwi curse and defeated New Zealand in the first semi-final of the tournament as well. Qualifying for the summit clash of the tournament, India faced off against Australia in the ultimate game and succumbed to a hefty loss. As the Men in Yellow defeated India by six wickets, the Pat Cummins-led side clinched their sixth World Cup title. After the loss, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma looked devastated as both players could not hide their emotions after missing out.

It was the knocks of Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head that helped Australia win the game, Head completed his century, whereas Labuschagne played a steady knock. Ensuring that the Men in Yellow do not lose any more wickets after a few early dismissals, both batters played brilliant innings to ensure their sixth World Cup title.

I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights: Rohit Sharma

After losing the final of the ODI World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma came forward to talk about the loss. The Team India skipper opined that the pitch got a bit better to bat on in the second innings, he even credited Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head for putting India out of the game.

"When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne for putting us out of the game, but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don't want to give that as an excuse. We didn't put enough runs on the board. Credit to those two guys in the middle for putting up an outstanding partnership,” Sharma was quoted as saying by NDTV.
