Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets Indian team after T20 World Cup triumph

The members of team India met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 4 in Delhi after their T20 World Cup win. The Men in Blue defeated South Africa by seven runs on the night of the finals on June 29 but reached India on July 4 as they were stuck in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. Upon reaching India, they checked in at ITC Maurya and soon after that, the team bus left to visit the PM.

Indian players and support staff were wearing a special ‘Champions’ jersey designed for the celebration. The jersey featured two stars above the logo after their T20 World Cup win. They were wearing the same jersey while meeting Modi as everyone posed for a photograph with the trophy. In the viral picture, PM Modi can be seen standing in the middle with the trophy while skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid were beside him with one hand on the trophy. BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah too were part of the photograph.

The Prime Minister also held talks with the members of the winning team but the details of the same are yet to be known. However, the players were full of smiles and laughter while talking to him.

After meeting the PM, team India left for ITC Maurya, where they are likely to have lunch before departing for Mumbai. The team is expected to reach the city at around 4 PM IST following which, the players will directly travel to Wankhede Stadium. BCCI along with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) have planned a massive celebration for the winning team as the players will be meeting thousands of fans in attendance.

Entry to Wankhede Stadium on July 4 is free of cost and will be allowed on a first-come, first-serve basis. After the celebrations in Wankhede, they will have a victory parade on Marine Drive where thousands of people are expected to gather. BCCI have already tightened the security in Mumbai as the players will be in an open-air bus. The celebrations are expected to continue till 9 PM IST.
