PSL 2024: Tayyab Abbas breaks Kieron Pollard's bat with sheer pace in Karachi Kings vs Lahore Qalandars clash
Karachi Kings won a thrilling encounter off the last ball against Lahore Qalandars in match 26 of PSL 2024.
Lahore Qalandars pacer Tayyab Abbas bowled a quick delivery that broke the bat of Karachi Kings all-rounder Kieron Pollard during the second innings of match No. 26 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2024), on Saturday, March 9.
The incident took place in the 13th over of Karachi's innings as Abbas bowled a fullish delivery outside off-stump that Pollard managed to square drive to the fielder at sweeper cover. After completing the shot, the West Indies all-rounder only had the handle of the bat in his hands as the rest of it went flying in the direction of the bowler. However, it thankfully came to a rest before reaching the right-arm pacer.
Check out Tayyab Abbas' lethal bat-breaking pace here:
Pollard completed the run before asking for a new bat. The delivery that did the damage clocked 137.5 kph. Abbas, who bowls with a slingy action, dismissed Pollard off the last ball of the over as the new bat didn't deliver the goods for the star T20 player. Abbas changed his pace and the batter, in his attempt to run it down, got a faint edge through to Shai Hope behind the stumps. Karachi went for the review after the on-field umpire didn't raise his finger. The decision was overturned after Ultra-Edge showed a spike as the ball was going past the bat.
Shoaib Malik hits boundary off the last ball as Karachi Kings win a thriller
Lahore Qalandars, who had already been eliminated from the ongoing PSL 2024, posted 177/5 after being invited to bat first as Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique struck half-centuries. Zahid Mahmood was the pick of the bowlers for Karachi as he finished with figures of 2/27 in his four overs.
In reply, the Kings got off to a fantastic start as openers James Vince and Tim Seifert added 59 runs inside seven overs. However, both of them couldn't capitalise on their starts. Skipper Shan Masood played a brisk knock of 24 runs off 16 balls before Pollard was dismissed for 3. Karachi needed a good partnership and it came from the duo of Shoaib Malik and Irfan Khan.
