Former India batter Virender Sehwag made a hilarious remark after Harbhajan Singh picked young pacer Arshdeep Singh as his next ‘future Indian superstar’. During the show ‘15 years of Incredible T20 League’ on Star Sports, Sehwag and Harbhajan engaged in a rather hilarious banter when asked about a bowler who could make it big in the coming years.
In response to the question, former India spinner Harbhajan was quick to back young Arshdeep to make significant strides in the next five years.
"Mere liye Arshdeep (Singh). Arshdeep mujhe lagta hai ki, aaj ka Arshdeep aur agle 5 saalo mein, aur better hoga (For me Arshdeep. I think the Arshdeep of today will get even better in the next five years)," said Harbhajan.
Sehwag, who was also part of the segment took a jibe at his former India teammate by adding that there are players from other places as well and not only Punjab.
"Punjab k alawa bhi players hain (There are players apart from Punjab as well),” responded Sehwag.
Harbhajan remained firm on his stance and gave a swift response to the former India opener as he added that he could only see ‘talent’ in Arshdeep.
"Nai Punjab ke alawa bhi hai par pratibha ki baat ho rahi hai to vo to mujhe wahi dikh rahi hai (There are others as well apart from Punjab, but here we are talking about talent),” added Harbhajan.
Notably, the 24-year-old pacer has played 26 T20Is and picked up 41 wickets, whereas he is yet to claim a scalp in the ODIs, despite having featured in three games. In spite of his ups and downs, Arshdeep has quickly flourished into one of the most reliable pacers in the death overs since his debut in July 2022.
This has further helped team India in expanding its options in the difficult overs. While there is lot for the young gun to prove in white-ball cricket, Arshdeep will look to come all guns blazing and will be aiming to cement his spot in the squad considering that the 2023 ODI World Cup is on the horizon.
