R Ashwin 'not most important person in my life': Laxman Sivaramakrishnan

In the recent five-match series between India and England, seasoned Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin marked his 100th Test appearance at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. Ahead of this milestone Test match, a remark by former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan garnered attention on social media.

While the cricket community celebrated Ashwin's achievement, Sivaramakrishnan expressed disappointment over the treatment he received from the Indian spinner. He claimed that Ashwin ignored his calls and did not respond to his congratulatory messages ahead of the game.

"Tried calling him a few times to wish him for his 100th Test. Just cut off my call. Sent him a message, no reply. That's the respect we former cricketers get," the former India spinner wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on March 6.

Sivaramakrishnan made another comment on Ashwin recently. "He is not the most important person in my life," he wrote in reply to a follower's query on X (formerly Twitter).

Making Ruturaj Gaikwad as CSK captain was an inevitable decision: R Ashwin

In a surprising turn of events, MS Dhoni announced his decision to step down as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the eve of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) opener. Meanwhile, Ashwin commented that the change in captaincy for CSK was a decision that was an "inevitable decision".

"This was an inevitable decision. It had to come at some stage. I know MS Dhoni. He keeps the team at the forefront. He keeps thinking about the well-being of the team. Because of that, 2 years ago, he gave the captain's armband to Jadeja. Now, he has given it to Ruturaj. This decision had to happen. Who and how remained the question," Ashwin said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"Ruturaj wouldn't have thought his role was only a batter until yesterday. I know MS Dhoni very well. Sitting in his room, enjoying dinner with the youngsters, he must have told Ruturaj last year, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. 'Brother, you are going to take charge. You can do all these things. I will be there, don't worry' is something that Dhoni night have told Ruturaj well in advance. I know Ruturaj, he is extremely cool and calm. He is a very good human being. I am extremely elated for him," he added.
