Legendary Indian cricketer and former coach Rahul Dravid is set to make a sensational return to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) as their head coach for the IPL 2025 season. His appointment comes after Dravid's successful tenure as the head coach of the Indian national men's team, where he led the squad to their first ICC title in 11 years.
Dravid's association with the RR dates back to his playing days when he captained the team in 2012 and 2013. He later served as the team's director and mentor in 2014 and 2015. In a fresh development, Dravid was seen meeting the CEO of RR, Jake McCrum and he seemingly relished receiving the pink jersey thereby depicting fondness for the Royals.
"Rahul Dravid, India's legendary World Cup-winning coach, is set for a sensational return to Rajasthan Royals! 🇮🇳🤝 The cricket icon was captured receiving his Pink jersey from the Royals Sports Group CEO Jake Lush McCrum. I feel it's the ideal time for me to take on another challenge: Rahul Dravid
The appointment was confirmed by the Rajasthan Royals management, with Rahul Dravid set to take charge immediately. His immediate focus will be on planning for the upcoming mega auction and the 2025 season. Besides, the former Indian head coach revealed that he felt the time was ripe to take on new challenges and going back to old association was the best choice he could have opted for.
“After the World Cup, I feel it's the ideal time for me to take on another challenge, and the Royals is the perfect place to do that”, Dravid said as per Rajasthan Royals' official handle.
Dravid's return is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the team's strategy. His long-standing relationship with RR captain Sanju Samson, who developed under Dravid's guidance in the under-19 ranks, could prove beneficial for the team's leadership dynamics.
