The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, will be playing their first home game of the 2024 season of the seventeenth edition of the IPL at the Wankhede Stadium against the inaugural season's champions, Rajasthan Royals, who in turn, will be playing away from home for the first time this edition.

This particular match holds a lot of importance for both teams, for starkly polarising reasons altogether. The home team are yet to win a game this season, sitting in tenth position currently, while the visitors would be looking to win three on the bounce, taking them to the top of the tree yet again.

On the eve of the highly-anticipated clash, the official account of RR took to X to announce Michael Vaughan, the former English cricketer-turned-commentator as their social media head. Vaughan who is often regarded as humorous and amusing by many due to his quick-witted nature and tongue-in-cheek remarks, particularly on social media and during commentary shared the news with a selfie of him sitting in front of a table, donned in the RR jersey, in front of his laptop with a water bottle behind the device.

Replying to the same, Vaughan shared a panoramic selfie of him from his hotel room at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, with him signalling a thumbs-up to the camera, behind whom the scenic Gateway of India could be seen in all its glory there being a horde of people flocking around which could be seen around the monument. As a caption, Vaughan mentioned that he was elated to have been drawn in by the "biggest franchise" as the head of social media, while also conveying his followers and the general public to follow RR's account to be up-to-date with top-notch content. As authentic as it may seem, the announcement is most probably an April Fool's prank.

Here's the Twitter post announcing Michael Vaughan as RR's social media head for IPL 2024:

Rajasthan Royals win the toss, opt to field first

Meanwhile, the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals won the toss and put the Mumbai Indians into bat first, with Sandeep Sharma getting replaced by Nandre Burger for RR. As for MI, left-arm spinner Shams Mulani gets replaced by right-arm medium pacer Akash Madhwal.
