Rohit Sharma returned to domestic cricket after 10 years but his innings were cut short by Jammu and Kashmir pacer Umar Nazir. The Elite Group A clash between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir got underway on Thursday, January 23, at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai. Fans tuned in to the clash with a lot of interest as India's Test and ODI skipper opened the batting for the defending champions. However, he was dismissed after scoring just three runs off 19 balls.

The legendary batter looked quite uncomfortable against Nazir, who stands at 6’4” tall. Rohit failed to judge the bounce on the surface and eventually top-edged a length delivery straight into the hands of Jammu and Kashmir skipper Paras Dogra at mid-off. Nazir had given his team a huge breakthrough as he had dismissed one of India's finest batters of all time. However, the 31-year-old decided against celebrating.

Later, the Pulwama-born revealed that he is a fan of India's T20 World Cup-winning captain and that is why he didn't celebrate his dismissal.

"The first thought in my mind was... I am a big fan of Rohit and that is why I didn't celebrate after taking his wicket today. If we win this game, it would be a proud moment because India's captain is playing in the opposition," Nazir told reporters on Thursday.

Apart from Rohit, Nazir picked up the wickets of international cricketers like Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube.

Jammu and Kashmir ended Day 1 at 174/7 after Shubham Khajuria (53) and Abid Mushtaq (44) played important knocks. Mohit Avasthi was the standout bowler for Mumbai as he bagged a three-for. The away side has taken a lead of 54 and will look to extend it on Day 2.
