The Royal Challengers Bangalore hosted David Warner's Delhi Capitals in the first game of the double-header Saturday on April 15, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After being put to bat first by the visitors, Kohli and Faf du Plessis looked to put up a strong partnership but were unable to build upon the momentum as Mitchell Marsh dismissed the in-form RCB skipper in the fifth over.
It was then a Virat Kohli show as the stalwart took charge and hit the ball all over the ground. In the 10th over, Kohli hit Mustafizur Rahman for a six on the fourth delivery, and took a quick single on the fifth delivery to bring up another half-century at the tournament. Kohli celebrated his fifty in an aggressive manner and was very pumped up after achieving the feat.
Unfortunately, he was dismissed by Lalit Yadav on the very first delivery of the next over and walked back to the pavilion scoring 50 off 34 deliveries.
Nevertheless, Kohli's half-century provided RCB the much needed momentum in the game. Notably, it was his 52nd 50+ score in the tournament's history, and his 47th half-century. RCB locked horns against DC in what was their fourth game of the tournament, and also their third at their home ground. With this half-century, Kohli has now notched up three consecutive fifties at the M Chinnaswamy in the ongoing edition of IPL.
Except for the one away game that RCB have played so far, Kohli has notched up a half-century every other time. In their three concluded games, RCB have won a game and lost two. After winning their firsr game against Mumbai, they lost their next two games against KKR and LSG. But Kohli has shown brilliance with the bat since the very first game and will be hoping to continue performing in a similar manner.
As Kohli brought out his animated celebration, his wife Anushka Sharma lauded his knock and gave him a standing ovation from the stands.
