There were a lot of uncertainties about whether Rohit Sharma will be retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. After he was removed as captain last year, reports were claiming that the current India captain would be parting ways with the franchise and that Lucknow Super Giants were interested in signing him. Since then, Mumbai have removed their head coach Mark Boucher and have worked tremendously in retaining their former captain.
His wife Ritika Sajdeh last year had a fallout with Boucher when she claimed that the former South Africa international was spreading misinformation about Rohit. All these played a part in reports emerging of Rohit’s exit ahead of the next edition. However, the new Mumbai head coach Mahela Jayawardene is believed to have played a vital role in convincing Rohit to continue with the franchise.
Now, as per Rohit Juglan of RevSportz, Mumbai have not just secured his signing but the star India batter will also be their first retention. Captain Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah were the favourites for the position but Mumbai don’t want to part ways with Rohit and for the same reason, they are ensuring to give the player everything possible.

October 31 is the deadline for IPL retentions
Meanwhile, Pandya is very likely to continue as captain despite Mumbai finishing at the bottom of the table last year. The dressing room was said to be divided into fragments and that is one thing the franchise aims to improve ahead of IPL 2025. However, retention and the money that it brings will play a major role in how they shape up next season.

Notably, October 31 is the last day for the franchises to announce their retentions. Each team is allowed to retain a maximum of five capped and one uncapped player. Mumbai are working on finalizing the deals and it needs to be seen if they manage to retain all their star players including Hardik, Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan.
