India skipper Rohit Sharma has confirmed his availability for the 2024 T20 World Cup, slated to be played in June 2024 in the West Indies and USA. Notably, India are currently in the midst of the five-match T20I series against the West Indies, however, senior cricketers such as Rohit and Virat Kohli have been confined to the sidelines as the selectors preferred to give opportunities to youngsters.

Rohit expressed that his side would be looking forward to playing the T20 World Cup in 2024 in a recent media interaction at the launch of his academy in USA's California, giving a subtle hint on his availability for the competition.

"More than just going and enjoying, there is another reason to come here (in the USA). Because you know the (2024 T20) World Cup is coming. In June, there will be the T20 World Cup happening in this part of the world. So, I'm pretty sure everyone is excited. So yeah, we look forward to that," Rohit said.

Meanwhile, the BCCI selection committee decided to hand the leadership responsibility to Hardik Pandya in the T20Is following India’s screeching halt in the 2022 T20 World Cup. With Hardik leading the T20I squad, Rohit’s role as a skipper has been limited to the longer formats, with him laving last played in led India in a T20I in November last year against England.

In addition to this, Rohit and Kohli have failed to make the cut in the T20I squad, as the think tank is willing to make changes in the setup, keeping in mind the 2024 event. It is worth noting that Rohit endured an underwhelming campaign with Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023, scoring only332 runs in 16 appearances at a dismal average of 20.75. Meanwhile, India will turn their attention towards the crucial Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup after the multi-format series against the West Indies.
