A comical moment went down at the toss of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 clash between India and New Zealand, involving skipper, Rohit Sharma. The amusing occurrence took place after Rohit lost the toss in Match 12 of the marquee ICC tournament, in the vibrant city of Dubai, on Sunday, March 2.
While Mitchell Santner was in conversation with toss presenter, Ian Bishop, Rohit was seen indulging in a humourous back-and-forth with former Indian cricketer, Dinesh Karthik. Karthik, who was pitchside and had his right hand wrapped around a colleague, was hilariously taunted by Rohit. Rohit, who looked to be in a jolly mood, almost suggested to Karthik about the latter jinxing his chances of winning the toss.
Notably, this was Rohit Sharma's 10th successive toss lost in the 50-over format. As a result, he became the first Indian captain to lose 10 tosses on the trot in ODI cricket. Rohit's unwanted streak began on November 19, 2023, on the day of the final of the World Cup, in which India lost against Australia by a six-wicket margin at the Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad.

New Zealand falter in pursuit of 250-run target
India ended up posting 249/9 at the end of their 50-over quota. Shreyas Iyer top-scored with a 98-ball 79-run knock. He was ably supported by Axar Patel after a top-order collapse had left India reeling in the powerplay. Hardik Pandya's vital run-a-ball 45 came good too.
Speaking of the run-chase, New Zealand are pushing through for the win amidst a barrage of spin bowling through the middle phase. Some fabulous bowling at the end guided the Blue Brigade to clinch a clinical victory of 44 runs over New Zealand. With this win, Team India are now all set to take on Australia in the semi-final.
