The first Test between India and Australia started off with the spinners taking charge on the first day at the VCA stadium in Nagpur. The focus then shifted to the Indian batters, and skipper Rohit Sharma stole the limelight with his magnificent century, which guided India to take a lead over Australia in their first innings.
Australia ended their innings at 177 on the first day after Ravindra Jadeja’s five-wicket haul and Ravichandran Ashwin’s three-wicket haul helped India dominate over the visitors. Rohit Sharma looked in great touch with the bat as he notched up a half-century towards the end of the first day, and continued batting in the same form on the second day as well, which helped him convert his knock into a century.
While Rohit notched up his first Test century ever since taking over India’s captaincy, a funny incident took place on the field on the second day. When Rohit and Jadeja were batting during the 77th over of the game, Rohit was heard saying “Yeh pagal hai thoda, sach me” (He’s a little mad, for real) to Jadeja, who looked to convert the single into a double.
Jadeja took a single off Marnus Labuschagne’s second delivery of the 77th over. While Jadeja looked for a second run, Rohit, who was on the striker’s end by then, refused the same when he saw the ball in Smith’s hands, addressing the Australian batter as ‘little mad’.

Rohit Sharma batted brilliantly even after losing four partners on the other end in the first two sessions on the second day. While Ashwin’s wicket was the first one that Australia got, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and debutant Suryakumar Yadav were dismissed cheaply. Jadeja then joined Rohit as the two started building the innings back.
On the second day, before the end of the second session, the duo put up an unbeaten 58-run stand for the sixth wicket. The duo would now look to build a strong partnership and hand India a dominating lead over the visitors so as the win the first game.
