'Rohit Sharma is probably sick of watching himself' - Wasim Akram irked with Mayanti Langer's question on Team India ahead of PAK-AFG clash

The ongoing Asia Cup 2022 has witnessed some mind-boggling action over the 22 yards. Majority of the games have gone down to the wire and fans couldn’t have asked for more. On Wednesday, Pakistan met Afghanistan in a crucial clash and emerged victorious in an astonishing manner. While the game will be remembered for Naseem Shah’s successive sixes in the final over, former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram’s reaction on air also became a talking point.

Akram, who is one of the commentators for the continental tournament, was visibly irritated when famous sports anchor Mayanti Langer asked him a question about Team India on the pre-match show of the Pakistan vs Afghanistan clash. The former Pakistan speedster was irked by the fact that India’s woes are being discussed when different teams are playing.

Hence, he gently passed the question to fellow commentator Sanjay Manjrekar. He even said Indian skipper Rohit Sharma might have been ‘sick’ seeing himself in the spotlight all day long.

Mayanti Langer: "They lost a lot of wickets, so you are not (reaching the death overs) with wickets in hand. Are you gonna continue with this to the World Cup?"

Wasim Akram: "All yours Sanjay!"

Mayanti Langer: "No Wasim, I wanna hear what you wanna say."

Wasim Akram: "Rohit Sharma is probably sick watching himself on TV. Two other teams are playing. I discussed India yesterday all day long. Today is Pakistan vs Afghanistan. That's why I am saying, Sanjay all yours."

Pakistan pip Afghanistan to seal final berth 

Meanwhile, the game was indeed important from India’s point of view as Afghanistan’s victory would have kept their outside chances of qualifying for the finals alive. Defending 130, the Mohammad Nabi-led side indeed put up a great fight and looked set to cross the line when Pakistan needed 11 off the final over with only one wicket in hand.

However, 19-year-old Naseem Shah had other plans as he sent the first couple of balls over the ropes to win the game for his team. As a result, Afghanistan and India have been knocked out of the competition and Pakistan will meet Sri Lanka in the grand final on Sunday (September 11).
