India skipper Rohit Sharma and flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav were seen clicking pictures with throwdown expert Dayananda Garani after his marriage. Dayananda is the throwdown specialist in the Indian national cricket team and has been credited by cricketers for his contribution to their success.
Prior to his stint with the national team, the throw-down expert was working with the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the IPL. He took his wedding vows on Friday, April 21, upon which star India cricketers Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were seen gracing the wedding event.
The two cricketers, who have spent time with Dayananda in the training sessions, took the onus of meeting him and his wife and posed for pictures following the wedding.
Dayananda started his journey into the sport as a small-time club cricketer, however, he dealt with much of the struggles coming from a small background. Later, he represented the Kolkata Police in first division fixtures and also did duty for them as a ‘Green Police’.
Bowling consistently with the side-arm at speeds of 140kph-plus, the pacer left no stone unturned to build a career in the cricket industry. He later got the chance to share the dressing room with the likes of KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, and Anil Kumble during his stint with the IPL franchise.
Daya played a big role in my success: Virat Kohli
Interestingly, it was during the COVID-19 phase that actually changed his career trajectory for good, as he was given the opportunity to work alongside the national team. Dayananda received a call from The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to travel Down Under in Australia after regular throwdown expert Raghavendra (known as Raghu) was down with COVID-19.
Star cricketer Virat Kohli has also gone on to laud Dayananda for contributing to his success. Following the conclusion of the Lanka ODI series, the swashbuckling right-hander added that everyone should remember the names of Daya, Raghu, and Nuwan while thanking the trio.
"This is Daya, Nuwan, Raghu - they challenge us every day with 145 kmph, 150 kmph, practice sessions are so intense, make us ready for the match, they had played a big role in my success, so everyone should remember their faces & names so thank you guys,” said Kohli in a video for bcci.tv
