T20 World Cup 2024 ambassador Yuvraj Singh, who was present at the Nassau Cricket Stadium in New York for the India versus Pakistan clash on Sunday, praised Rohit Sharma's captaincy as the Men in Blue defeated their arch-rivals by six runs in what turned out to be a low-scoring thriller.

After winning the toss, Pakistan captain Babar Azam asked India to bat first. India were bowled out for 119 in just 19 overs after losing their last seven wickets for just 30 runs in the space of 47 balls. Pakistan would have fancied their chances of registering only their second win against India in World Cups on a pitch that looked much better than the previous games at the venue.

Pakistan were cruising at one stage during the run-chase and required only a run-a-ball in the last eight overs with eight wickets in the bank. However, the Indian pacers were extremely disciplined at the backend of the innings and kept picking up wickets at regular intervals to make life difficult for the opposition batters. Rohit's tactical brilliance was on display as his bowling and fielding changes worked wonders.

Yuvraj was all praise for Rohit's captaincy skills and noted that Pakistan's batting struggled to cope with India's persistent bowling attack.

"India wins a thrilling low-scoring contest against Pakistan! Rohit’s  @ImRo45 strategic masterclass shines through! As his clever use of bowlers was the game-changer. Pakistan's batting struggled to counter India's precise attack. Well-deserved win for Team India! Well played @RishabhPant17 and well bowled @Jaspritbumrah93 @hardikpandya7 @imjadeja @arshdeepsinghh," Yuvraj wrote on his official 'X' (formerly Twitter) handle.

India's win makes qualification chances brighter for USA

Pakistan started the T20 World Cup 2024 with a shocking defeat to the USA and would have hoped to resurrect their campaign with a win against inaugural champions India on Sunday. However, their narrow defeat keeps them in the fourth position in Group A behind India, USA, and Canada.

The USA already have four points from two games and need just one more win to secure a place in the Super Eight stage in what is their maiden T20 World Cup appearance. Meanwhile, Pakistan will have to win both their remaining games against Ireland and Canada to stay in contention for the playoffs and hope other results go their way.
