Rishabh Pant made his comeback to competitive cricket with Indian Premier League 2024 after an almost two-year hiatus. The batter who survived a freakish car accident in December 2022 had every Indian cricket fan praying for his swift recovery. However, his comeback game against Punjab Kings did not show his usual best. But there is something to cheer about as he played his 100th IPL game on March 28.

Delhi Capital’s game against Rajasthan Royals marks the southpaw’s century of IPL games. He has been a longstanding member of the Capitals franchise as he has represented no other team other than theirs. The bond was evident when Pant was seen sharing an auction table with the DC franchise think tanks ahead of IPL 2024. Taking the camaraderie to further extensions, the DC provided him with a special jersey 100 number jersey just before the match.

In the absence of the wicket-keeper batter, Australia’s David Warner led the Capitals for the time being. The team failed to qualify for the playoffs but was touted for its fightback despite being overwritten. Now that their star player is back as the captain, the team hoped for a head start but fumbled in their initial assignment of the 17th edition of the cash-rich league.

They took on PBKS in their debut game of the season and posted a decent 174 runs on the board. Pant who was making his comeback departed soon as he managed only 18 runs off 13 deliveries. But the spectators were thrilled to bits as he smashed two boundaries in his brief innings. However, DC could not contain PBKS as the Shikhar Dhawan lead side emerged victorious by four wickets. With 13 matches to go in the long tournament, they will eye a solid start to their campaign.
