Following a colossal first innings performance by the Rajasthan Royals top-order, Trent Boult struck twice on the trot in the very first over of the chase against the Delhi Capitals. Adding to the miseries for Delhi, the Kiwi pacer returned a maiden in the same over to extend their domination in the contest.

Rajasthan were put into bat first by David Warner upon winning the toss and what followed was a sensational batting performance by openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler. The duo carved out a 98-run partnership to hand a massive head start. The Royals concluded with a humongous total of 199 runs courtesy of Jaiswal’s 60, Buttler’s 79, and a 21-ball 39 cameo by Shimron Hetmyer.

In response, Delhi decided to bring in their Impact Player Prithvi Shaw to help kickstart the innings off to a flyer along with skipper Warner. However, things went south for the franchise as Trent Boult struck back-to-back blows to dismiss Shaw and Manish Pandey, who joined the crease just a ball later.

After the first two balls went for dots, Shaw flicked the third ball through mid-on only to find Samson, who flung himself in front of the first slip and pouched the ball in what was a sensational grab. In the following delivery, Boult trapped Pandey as the ball crashed into the leg stump after hitting him in front of the middle. The final two deliveries saw a rattled Delhi side playing delicately as Warner and Rilee Rossouw fancied not taking any run.

Delhi face a massive uphill task during their run chase

With the humongous target in place and having lost three big wickets early on in the chase, skipper Warner will need to lead from the front. However, Sanju Samson has introduced veteran offie Ravichandran Ashwin into the attack during the powerplay to slow down the chase.

It remains to be seen if Delhi can give the rival side a tough fight and potentially win the contest. Warner will look to replicate a similar sort of innings like Buttler and hope to avoid a third consecutive defeat in the top-tier league.
