The 48th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals and the defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur on Friday, May 5.
Batting first, Rajasthan faced a batting collapse as they crumbled against the relentless bowling attack of the defending champions. Plummeting towards a low total, the responsibility fell onto the tailenders to propel the hosts to a respectable score.
However, star pacer Trent Boult muscled a ball out for a six in the 16th over of the game. Facing Noor Ahmed, Boult heaved the ball over the midwicket. The six by the star pacer took the cameraman out as the ball hit him as it came down. Gujarat Titans spinner Rashid Khan went to check up on the cameraman in a heartfelt gesture, and Gujarat Titans' physio rushed towards him to conduct a concusion test.
Gujarat Titans defeat Rajasthan Royals by nine wickets
After the first innings, Rajasthan Royals had posted 118 runs on the scoreboard. Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad put in excellent spells with the ball to dismantle the batting attack of the hosts. Rashid took three wickets and conceded just 14 runs in four overs, whereas Noor took two wickets and conceded 25 runs in three overs.
Coming in to chase down a target of 119 runs, Gujarat got off to a sensational start as Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill played resilient innings in the opening stand. Saha scored an unbeaten 41 runs in 34 balls, whereas Gill amassed 36 runs in 35 deliveries before he was sent back to the pavilion by Yuzvendra Chahal.
However, after the fall of the first wicket, skipper Hardik Pandya played an explosive knock, amassing 39* runs in just 15 deliveries, which propelled the defending champions to a win by nine wickets. After the win, Gujarat strengthened their position atop the IPL points table with 14 points in 10 games; on the other hand, Rajasthan Royals find themselves in fourth with 10 points in just as many games.
