Rajasthan Royals veteran offie Ravichandran Ashwin was seen giving a run-out scare to Punjab Kings’ skipper Shikhar Dhawan at the non-striker’s end in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) match no. 8. The two sides have locked horns at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati which is hosting its first-ever IPL match.

Punjab Kings had a stellar beginning to their innings as openers Prabhsimran Singh and Dhawan swiftly hit the ground running and got 90 runs between them. In the midst of the innings, veteran spinner Ashwin found himself in yet another intriguing incident as he pulled out of his delivery stride while Dhawan was clearly seen backing away too far outside of the crease at the non-striker's end.

Interestingly, Jos Buttler, who had once been ‘controversially’ run out by Ashwin in an IPL match, showed a cold reaction when the incident unfolded. Meanwhile, Rajasthan got the important scalp of Prabhsimran, who notched up 60 runs off 34 balls and need a few more wickets to take control of the contest.

PBKS eye second consecutive win in IPL 2023

PBKS started off their campaign with a win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as they edged past the latter in a rain-curtailed contest. Moreover, the side is well on course to obtain a second win assuming they continue to stamp their authority against the Sanju Samson-led Royals in the ongoing match.

Dhawan looks to be in great touch and has registered a half-century off 36 balls which included six boundaries and one maximum. Kings will aim to finish the innings on a high note and hope that their bowling unit does the rest of the job during the chase.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan substituted spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for Dhruv Jurel at the end of the 16th over of the match. There is a lot for Royals to still work on but a clinical batting performance could see them earn their second win of the season. It remains to be seen if Samson and Co. come back stronger in the contest or will Dhawan’s Kings continue their dominance.
