The 60th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) saw the clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, May 14. RCB captain Faf du Plessis opted to bat first after winning the toss.
Du Plessis (55 off 44) and Glenn Maxwell (54 off 33) stitched a 69-run partnership as RCB set a 172-run target for the Sanju Samson-led side. For RR, KM Asif and Adam Zampa picked two wickets while Sandeep Sharma grabbed one.
During the chase, RR openers failed to produce a steady start for the home side. Pacer Mohammed Siraj provided RCB with a massive breakthrough as he dismissed in-form opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck in the very first over of the second innings. The youngster smashed it hard for a boundary but it landed in the hands of Virat Kohli at the mid-off.
RR skipper Sanju Samson joined Jos Buttler to help his side to chase the target. However, Wayne Parnell struck twice as he removed Buttler and Samson in the same over. Buttler tried to lift it for a boundary but Siraj took a brilliant catch. Samson, on the other hand, mistimed a shot as the ball went up and landed in the hands of keeper batter Anuj Rawat.
Meanwhile, Buttler set an unflattering record during the match against RCB. The star England batter tied the record for the most ducks in an IPL season by an opener with four ducks. Apart from the keeper-batter, the two openers who have been dismissed for four ducks in an IPL season are South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs (DCH) in 2009 and Shikhar Dhawan (DC/DD) in 2020.
RCB beat RR by 112 runs in Jaipur
RCB bowlers were instrumental as the visitors registered a massive 112-run win over the hosts. Wayne Parnell claimed three wickets as RR were restricted to 59/10 in 10.3 overs. Apart from Siraj and Parnell, Michael Bracewell and Karn Sharma each took two wickets while Maxwell picked one.
