SA-W U19 vs IND-W U19: Mannat Kashyap runs out Jenna Evans on non-striker's end

India and South Africa started their preparation for the upcoming Women’s U-19 World Cup as the two sides kicked off their five-match T20I series. In the very first game of the series, India’s Mannat Kashyap run out the opposition batter Jenna Evans on the non-striker end before wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh called her back.

India claimed a comprehensive 54-run victory over South Africa to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Shweta Sehrawat and Soumya Tiwari scored the crucial runs for India after South African bowlers struck early to provide early blows. But Shabnam MD and Archana Devi shared six wickets between themselves and restricted the opponents from chasing down the 138-run target.

But amid everything, it was Kashyap who grabbed the spotlight and made the headlines as she run-out the South African batter on the non-striker’s end in the 17^th over of the game. Despite being forewarned, Jenna Evans left the crease before Kashyap released the ball. The left-arm spinner was aware of the situation and smartly dislodged the bails to run her out.

However, Evan was called back to bat by the Indian team, even after the umpire had signaled it as out. But her tenure on the field wasn’t long enough as she was caught and bowled by Archana Devi after scoring seven runs off 12 deliveries. Kashyap had attempted a similar act during India’s game against the New Zealand Development team, but the batter, Izzy Gaze, stepped back into the crease right on time and Kashyap missed the run-out.

Women in Blue clinch a comprehensive win 

Speaking of the game, South Africa won the toss and put India to bat first. Indian skipper Shafali Verma was dismissed for a golden duck on the very first delivery of the game as India were handed a major blow to start off the proceedings. It was then the 70-run second-wicket partnership between Sehrawat and Tiwari that kept India’s boat afloat. 

No other batter could make an impact except the two, who scored 40 runs each as India closed their innings at 137/5. South Africa’s start to the chase was terrible as they lost three wickets within the powerplay. Indian bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals, which restricted the hosts from gaining momentum. The Proteas women could score only 83 runs in 20 overs while losing eight wickets, as India clinched a comfortable win.
