'Sachin I hope you will not let me down' - Sunil Gavaskar and young Tendulkar's old conversation goes viral

Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar are icons of Indian cricket. While one is termed as ‘Littler Master,’ the other is revered as ‘Master Blaster.’ Gavaskar became the first Indian to breach the 10,000 runs mark in Test cricket and he had pre-empted a bright future for Tendulkar while was just hatching out of his shell.

The veteran has always been vocal about Sachin’s technique, work ethic, and hard work. He had also lavished praise on the stalwart for surpassing every possible record. As it stands out, the 51-year-old has the highest number of centuries (100) international alongside several other records. An old video of Gavaskar predicting young Tendulkar has gone viral on the internet.

"I for one know that if at the end of his career, he does not get a minimum of 15,000 runs and 40 Test centuries, I shall personally go and strangle him. 20 years down the road my hands will not have the strength so he might still survive, but I think I will deputize somebody to do that for me. He's got that much talent. Sachin I hope you will not let me down, not let Indian cricket down,” Gavaskar said in the video. 

“I will be trying my best,” came a reply from Tendulkar.

Tendulkar accumulated over 15000 runs in his illustrious Test career

The right-handed batter went on to represent India in whites, 200 times with 15,921 runs and 51 centuries. He played 463 ODIs and scored 18,426 runs with 49 tons. He was also the first batter on the planet in men's cricket to score a double hundred in ODIs.

He bid adieu to his career with a Test against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 16 November 2013. Therefore ending 24 years of an illustrious cricketing career.
