'Hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in next few days' - Sachin Tendulkar congratulates Virat Kohli for his 49th ODI ton
Kohli achieved the feat during India's World Cup encounter against South Africa at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 5.
Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest of all time, congratulated star India batter Virat Kohli after the latter claimed his 49th century in ODI cricket. With his century, the former India skipper leveled up with Tendulkar in the chart of most centuries in the 50-over format. The right-handed batter achieved the feat during India's Cricket World Cup encounter against South Africa at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 5, the day Kohli celebrated his 35th birthday.
Tendulkar took to X to share a photo of Kohli and penned a heartfelt note after the batter added a new feather to his cap. He also boosted the 35-year-old to score 50 in the upcoming ODI matches.
"Well played Virat. It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations!!" the Master Blaster wrote on X.

Virat Kohli holds second place in top-scorers chart
Virat Kohli scored a century against South Africa during India’s eighth World Cup clash. The right-handed batter reached the three-figure mark off 119 deliveries with the help of ten boundaries. Notably, the century marked his second ton in the ongoing competition as he first hit a ton during the match against Bangladesh in Pune.
The 35-year-old, who is in red-hot form, is currently the side’s leading run-scorer and second overall, having accumulated 543 runs at an average of 108.60 with a strike rate of 88.29. In this tournament, he also has four half-centuries to his name. He is now trailing behind Quinton de Kock and is just short of just seven runs, with the ace South African wicketkeeper-batter scoring 550 runs, including four tons.
The Delhi-born cricketer is anticipated to continue his excellence in the 50-over format. Having made his ODI debut in August 2008, Kohli has amassed 13626 runs from 289 games thus far.
