Sachin Tendulkar shares throwback photo to wish Ravi Shastri on his 61st birthday

As former cricketer and ex-Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri celebrated his 61st birthday on Saturday, May 27, wishes poured in from all corners, as many distinguished members of the cricketing fraternity took time to wish Shastri on his special day. Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar too shared a piece of nostalgia, reliving his cherished moments with Shastri by sharing a photo. 

The photo that recently got netizens talking, features a young Sachin on a cricket pitch, engrossed in a conversation with Shastri, who can be seen in a suit. Sachin can be seen pointing towards the direction of the camera and it has so been speculated that the two could've been having a technical conversation on aspects of the game. 

Taking to Twitter, Sachin shared the photo with the caption "Wishing my friend with a lot of swag, @RaviShastriOfc, a very happy birthday! May your day be packed with laughter, fun & good times!"

Notably, Sachin got to play international cricket alongside Shastri for close to three years, before Shastri played his last international game on 17 December, 1992 against South Africa. He played first-class cricket for two more years and announced his retirement in September, 1994. Both Sachin and Shastri used to represent Mumbai, then Bombay, in first-class cricket - a factor that helped them share a close bond with each other in due course of time.

Shastri held the record of the fastest double-century in first-class cricket for over three decades

Throughout his illustrious career, Shastri had claimed a plethora of records, many of which remained at his disposal for decades. While it is a known fact that he became the first Indian to hit six sixes off an over in first-class cricket, what is rather unknown is the fact that he also scored the fastest double-century in first-class cricket in minutes, claiming the record in just 113 minutes, playing against Baroda. In the very same match, he hit six sixes in an over off Tilak Raj to become the first Indian and the overall second in the world to achieve the feat, after Sir Gary Sobbers. 

Notably, the record of the fastest double century in first-class cricket by minutes was later broken by Afghanistan's Shafiqullah Shinwari, who notched it up in just 103 minutes in 2017, while playing for Kabul Region vs Boost Region.
