Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah, on Monday, confirmed that the legendary Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, will felicitate the India U-19 women's squad, following their historic win in the ICC U-19 T20 World Cup. It is understood that Bharat Ratna awardee Tendulkar, along with the Office Bearers of the apex cricket board will honour the young guns on Wednesday, February 1, in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for clinching the maiden World Cup title in South Africa.

The facilitation will take place prior to the occasion of the 3rd T20I contest between India and New Zealand at the venue. BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, took to Twitter to confirm Sachin Tendulkar’s involvement in the facilitation in order to honour the achievements of the victorious U-19 side led by Shafali Verma. Previously, the secretary had also invited the entire squad to Ahmedabad to witness the final clash between the senior Men’s team and the New Zealanders.

“It is with great delight I share that Bharat Ratna Shri Sachin Tendulkar and BCCI Office Bearers will felicitate the victorious India U19 team on Feb 1st in Narendra Modi Stadium at 6:30 PM IST. The young cricketers have made India proud and we will honour their achievements,” Tweeted Jay Shah.

Team India rout England during low-scoring run chase

Shafali Verma and Co. rout pre-tournament favourites England in the first-ever ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup final on Sunday, January 29.

The U-19 Women in Blue side asserted their dominance in the biggest stage with panache while chasing a meagre 69 runs set by the Three Lions. Led by pace sensation Titas Sadhu and leg-spinner Parshavi Chopra, team India dished out a superlative performance to bundle out England for a paltry total.

In response to the low score, the Indian batting unit swiftly hit the ground running despite losing two early wickets with Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha taking the onus of steering the side to cement their place in history.
