Delhi Capitals (DC) took on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the fourth match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Monday, March 24. However, a moment of missed opportunity in the first innings might have a significant impact on the game, as DC’s Sameer Rizvi dropped Nicholas Pooran, handing the West Indian batter a lifeline early in the game.
The West Indian, rubbing salt into the wounds, immediately capitalised on the mistake by hammering a six off the very next ball. The dropped catch moment came on the fifth ball of the seventh over when Pooran mistimed a shot off a short ball from Vipraj Nigam, which went straight towards backward point, where Rizvi was stationed. What looked like a straightforward catch, Rizvi made a mess of, dropping what could have been a crucial wicket for DC. The southpaw followed up the dropped chance with a massive six off the very next delivery.

LSG reach 64 runs in six overs
Meanwhile, both teams entered the contest with new captains with Axar Patel leading Delhi Capitals, and Rishabh Pant as LSG's captain. DC won the toss and opted to field, expecting dew to play a role in the second innings of the IPL 2025 encounter. LSG’s innings started with solid intent as Mitchell Marsh started smashing the opposition bowlers from the first over, scoring a quick 50 off just 21 balls. The Capitals’ bowlers struggled to contain the run flow, with Nigam, Mukesh Kumar, and even the experienced Mitchell Starc going for runs.
With Pooran’s track record against leg-spinners in T20 cricket with a strike rate of 159.23, the dropped catch could prove costly for DC. At the end of seven overs, LSG had raced to 89/1 at a run rate of 12.71. Aiden Markram was the only batter dismissed, falling to Nigam after scoring 15 off 13 balls.
