Pakistan to host first ICC tournament after 1996
Pakistan’s return as a host for a major ICC (International Cricket Council) event comes after years of security concerns that prevented international teams from touring the country. The last time Pakistan hosted an ICC event was in 1996, when the ODI Cricket World Cup was co-hosted by India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. However, the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore, resulted in a decade-long drought of international cricket in the nation.

With the Champions Trophy 2025 scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9, Pakistan is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the security of players, officials, and fans. The PCB has made extensive arrangements, including completing the renovation of Gaddafi Stadium in record time, upgrading security protocols, brighter LED lights, two new larger score screens, comfortable imported seating in all enclosures, and coordinating with local law enforcement agencies.
The ICC and various cricketing boards have closely monitored Pakistan’s security situation before giving the green signal for the tournament. Any lapse in security could impact future opportunities for the country to host major international events.
