Pakistan stumbled at the final hurdle of the Asia Cup as Sri Lanka triumphed in the final by 23 runs to lift their sixth Asia Cup title. The islanders became the only Asian team to lift the trophy in each decade since the inception of the competition. While the match was a hotly contested affair just like people expected, Pakistani vice captain Shadab Khan was involved in a funny interaction with the umpire.
Sri Lanka, batting first in the final, were rocked early by the Pakistani pacers as the influential Lankan opener Kusal Mendis was sent packing for a duck. Pakistan speedster Haris Rauf got rid of Pathum Nissanka and Danushka Gunathilaka to further dent the islanders. He almost had Bhanuka Rajapaksa when the ball struck the batters' pad, and Pakistan went upstairs, challenging the on-field call of not out.
But the third umpire stuck with the original decision as the impact was the umpire's call, to the dismay of the Men in Green. Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan then tried to overturn the decision by forcefully lifting the umpire's finger, which resulted in a chuckle from both the involved parties.

Shadab Khan apologized for his poor fielding efforts which cost the Pakistani team in the final
The decision proved to be an assertive factor in the match as Rajapaksa went on to register a match-turning unbeaten 71 off 45 deliveries, which garnered him the Player of the Match award after the culmination of the finale. Meanwhile, things got progressively worse for the Pakistani all-rounder as he dropped two catches, including Rajapaksa's, before parrying it for a six comically.
Sri Lanka completed a miraculous recovery from 58/5 to post a more than competitive total of 170/6 on the back of Rajapaksa's brilliance, who stitched two half-century stands with Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne, respectively. Shadab Khan, in a mark of sportsmanship, blamed himself for the loss and apologized for letting the team down in the titular clash.
"Catches win matches. Sorry, I take responsibility for this loss. I let my team down," Shadab expressed through a tweet.
Catches win matches. Sorry, I take responsibility for this loss. I let my team down. Positives for team, @iNaseemShah, @HarisRauf14, @mnawaz94 and the entire bowling attack was great. @iMRizwanPak fought hard. The entire team tried their best. Congratulations to Sri Lanka pic.twitter.com/7qPgAalzbt
