Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi shared a photograph with captain Babar Azam on Tuesday, September 19. Notably, after Pakistan’s exit from Asia Cup 2023, there were widespread rumours of a fallout between Babar and Afridi. The duo reportedly had a heated argument in the dressing room forcing Mohammad Rizwan to intervene between them.

However, a senior player from the team quashed the rumours and revealed there was no noisy argument in the dressing room after Pakistan’s loss to Sri Lanka in the Super 4 fixture. And now in a major development, Afridi has put all the rumours to rest by sharing an image with Babar and captioning it ‘family.’

The reports of a possible rift in the Pakistan dressing room emerged after Pakistan’s loss to Sri Lanka in a must-win Super fours fixture of the Asia Cup 2023. During the match, Pakistan posted 252/7 in a rain-curtailed 42-over game after opting to bat first. Mohammad Rizwan top scored for his side with his knock of 86* off 73 balls. In reply, Sri Lanka managed to chase down the target thrillingly on the last ball of the match with two runs needed to win.

Charith Asalanka (49* off 47) held his nerve and finished the game for his side and took them to the final of the Asia Cup. Following Pakistan’s loss, reports emerged claiming that Pakistan captain had come down heavily on his team which didn’t go down well with Shaheen Afridi. However, the reports have been put to rest by Afridi’s latest post.

Shaheen Afridi was the joint second highest wicket-taker of Asia Cup 2023

The left-arm seamer had a great tournament with the ball as he picked ten wickets from five innings at an average of 23.50 and an economy of 5.73. On the other hand, Babar finished as the fourth-highest run scorer of the tournament with 207 runs from four innings at an average of 51.75 and a strike rate of 97.64 with one hundred to his name.

The duo will look to continue their form in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 as Pakistan start their campaign with a game against the Netherlands in Hyderabad on October 06.
