The Pakistan cricket team recently attended dinner hosted by former captain and current chief selector Shahid Afridi at his residence ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting Monday, January 9. Pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi who has been on the sidelines for the last couple of months due to a knee injury was also one of the guests for the occasion and he was seen welcoming the players and the support staff including bowling coach Shaun Tait.

Shahid Afridi was named the interim chief selector by the PCB last month for the ongoing home bilateral series against New Zealand. It has now been reported that he is having second thoughts of continuing in this post after the conclusion of the series. Notably, Afridi had only accepted this position for the home series against the Kane Williamson-led side.

Afridi’s former Pakistan teammates Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum are also a part of the new selection committee along with Haroon Rasheed. The veteran all-rounder was considered for the role of the interim chief selector by the Najam Sethi-led PCB management. He succeeded Mohammad Wasim who as a part of Ramiz Raja’s panel.

Ramiz was sacked as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Chairman just days after the national team’s humiliating home Test series defeat against England after which the board decided to go for a complete revamp. After a high-octane New Zraland Test series which ended in a stalemate, Pakistan will now look to come out on top in the ODI series.
