'Should Team India include Abhishek in the bench strength?' - Harbhajan Singh floats idea after SRH opener's blitzkrieg vs LSG
Abhishek Sharma's mind-boggling knock against Lucknow Super Giants has caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts and earned the southpaw surreal praise.
Harbhajan Singh wondered if Abhishek Sharma could be added to India's reserve players' list for the impending T20 World Cup 2024, after the southpaw played a scintillating knock to help Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) annihilate Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, May 8.
Chasing a target of 166, Sunrisers romped home with 10 wickets in hand and 62 balls to spare as Travis Head and Abhishek played sizzling knocks to orchestrate the win. While Head scored 89 not out off 30 balls, Abhishek smashed 75* off just 28. The Punjab batter hit eight fours and six sixes during his exhilarating knock as the LSG bowlers had no answer to his onslaught.

Legendary off-spinner Harbhajan was one of the many cricket enthusiasts who were stunned by Abhishek's ball-striking ability. The off-spinner floated the idea of adding Abhishek among the reserve players for India in next month's T20 World Cup.
"What just happened in Hyderabad! Travishead & IamAbhiSharma4 hitting sixes like taking singles. Chased 165 in 9.4 overs. Should Team India include Abhishek in the bench strength?" Harbhajan asked in a social media post on Wednesday.
Abhishek Sharma's awesome IPL 2024 numbers
The 23-year-old is having a stellar season in IPL 2024. He has amassed 401 runs from 12 matches at an average of 36.45 and has a strike rate of 205.64. Abhishek has hit 30 fours and 35 sixes so far this season. No one has hit more sixes than him in the ongoing IPL.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-man squad to represent the Men in Blue in the upcoming T20 World Cup next month. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were the two specialist openers picked in the side, with Virat Kohli expected to bat at No. 3. Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh were named among the reserves as Abhishek failed to get the nod. However, with such sensational performances, the Amritsar-born will earn his maiden India call-up sooner rather than later.
