The important partnership between Harry Brook and Joe Root was broken by star India pacer Harshit Rana. Notably, the speedster once again provided the Indian team with an important breakthrough in the ongoing second ODI match, in Cuttack.

Brook had started to look ominous as he got a great start but failed to convert his knock into a big innings in the do-or-die match for the visitors. It all looked comfortable for England even after the dismissal of Ben Duckett who started off the innings well, as Harry Brook and Root were rotating the strikes and keeping the run flow going. The two had put on 66 for the third wicket partnership until Brook was dismissed for 31 in the end in the 30th over, as he got deceived by a slower one by Rana.

However, it was not only Rana who deserved the credit for the wicket but also Shubman Gill who took an impressive catch while running back while stationed in the mid-off region. The 25-year-old youngster showed wonderful athleticism as soon as Brook went for a big shot down the ground. In the end, all Brook could do was walk back to the pavilion after the stunning catch taken by Gill.

Gill played a match-winning knock in first ODI

Meanwhile, speaking of Shubman Gill, he was the player of the match in the first ODI for his great knock of 87 in Nagpur. Moving forward into the current game, this catch will give him even more confidence when he goes into bat in the second innings of the match. Given the change in the playing XI for the game, he is expected to open the batting this time. Speaking of the match at the end of 43.3 overs, England were 253/5 with Liam Livingstone and Jamie Overton at the crease. After Brook, Root (69 off 72 balls) and Jos Buttler (34 off 35 balls) were dismissed as well.
