‘Silence is the source of great strength’ - Virat Kohli shares cryptic message following WTC Final loss
India lost the WTC Final for the second consecutive time.
The much-anticipated World Test Championship final (WTC) 2023 finally came to an end with Pat Cummins-led Australia scripting history and clinching their maiden WTC title. The match went down to the very last day; however, team India fell short as Australia won the game by 209 runs, thanks to a sensational display by the Aussie bowlers on Day 5.
Before the start of the day’s play, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane stood at the crease as India had a fighting chance to get back in the game. However, their hopes were squandered after Scott Boland sent Kohli packing for 49 runs. Following the 34-year-old’s dismissal, rest of the Indian batting lineup could not add much as they were bundled out for 234 runs chasing a humongous 444.
Following the heartbreaking loss, Kohli once again took to his Instagram story to post yet another motivational message. "Silence is the source of great strength," Kohli posted in his story.
It is also worth noting that Kohli had been quite active on social media across the five days that the WTC final was played, and this was not the first time that he posted a motivational quote on his story, as he has done so frequently in the last few days.
Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland wreak havoc on India in second innings
Looking to chase down a target of 444 runs, team India required 280 runs to win when Day 5 began. With Kohli and Rahane on strike, many were hopeful that the team could emerge victorious. However, the Aussies came in all guns blazing in the second innings, as after Boland dismissed Kohli, the rest of the batting order failed to make an impact on the game.
Nathan Lyon was also sensational in the second innings for Australia, the veteran spinner took four wickets, whereas Boland sent three batters packing. Furthermore, Mitchell Starc took two wickets, with Pat Cummins striking once. The excellent performances by the bowlers saw Australia win the game and clinch the WTC title.
