Shubman Gill registered the highest score by an Indian in the shortest format of the game in international cricket while batting against New Zealand in the third T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He remained unbeaten and notched up 126 runs off just 63 deliveries.
Former India skipper Virat Kohli reserved massive and extremely special praise for Shubman Gill after the 23-year-old's brilliant emploits. Thanks to his magnificent century, India posted a humungous total of 234/4. The Men in Blue went on to defend it to win the game by 168 runs.
“Sitara. The future is here,” Virat Kohli wrote while sharing a picture of him and Gill, in an appreciation post on his Instagram story.
And rightly so, Shubman Gill has on many occassions been termed the "future of Indian cricket" due to his outstanding ability to adapt to the standards of international cricket at such an early stage of his career, and having already entered several record books.

Gill smashed his maiden T20I hundred in the third and deciding T20I against New Zealand on Wednesday. The right-hander became the fifth Indian to hit centuries in all formats after the likes of Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. With his performance against New Zealand in Ahmedabad, Gill proved his worth in the 20-over format as well.
"It feels good when you practise and it pays off. Happy to get the big ones for the team. Everybody has a different technique to hit sixes. Hardik bhai told me to bat the way I do, and that there is no need to do anything extra. When you are representing your country, I don't think there's any kind of fatigue, and I am happy to play all three formats." Gill said at the post-match presentation, where he was adjudged the Player of the Match.
