In a must-win match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 2023, star India batter Virat Kohli rose up to the occasion and hit a fantastic century as Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to win by eight wickets. Chasing a target of 187 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Kohli and Faf du Plessis (71 runs off 47 deliveries) set the tone of the match and with the win, RCB moved to number four on the IPL points table.

Meanwhile, after RCB’s win, eminent journalist Rajat Sharma took a brutal dig at Gautam Gambhir. Notably, the former cricketer and Rajat were involved in a spat on social media after the latter questioned his heated exchange with Virat during LSG’s match against RCB earlier in the season. Thus, in his tweet, Rajat lauded the former RCB skipper for his century and eventually took a dig at Gambhir.

“Magnificent 100 by Virat. It was a delight to watch. Of course, somebody somewhere may not be happy,” Rajat tweeted.

IPL Playoffs race gets heated up

With RCB’s eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18, the road to the IPL playoffs got heated up as both Bangalore and Mumbai currently have 14 points in 13 matches. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings currently have 12 points to their name and thus, even though their qualification scenario looks complicated, there’s still a chance for them to make it to the playoffs.

For that, RCB and MI will have to lose their final league game of the season while they will have to win by a massive margin as their net run rate will eventually decide their fate in the league. On that note, Rajasthan will be taking on Punjab in their last match of the season and thus, either of the teams will have the opportunity to make it to the top four while KKR will be playing against Lucknow Super Giants, who are currently fighting for a place in the top two. However, if both RCB and MI win their respective matches and LSG lose, the Krunal Pandya-led side will have to bow out of the tournament.
