Rohit Sharma tore into Mayank Yadav by launching consecutive deliveries into the stands during the ongoing clash between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 27. The two maximums came after the first delivery was a bumper drifting down leg side which the ace batter was unable to connect.

The first shot was more of a swivel by Rohit, as he guided the 141 kph delivery over the long leg fence. Mayank persisted with a similar channel and copped similar fate as the former MI skipper brought out the classical pull to dispatch the ball for a 77-metre maximum over deep square leg.

Mayank, who was playing his first game of IPL 2025, had the last laugh though. The speedster's slower ball produced the wicket of the dangerous-looking Rohit. Rohit was aiming to steer the slower delivery towards the off side. However, all he could manage was skewing the ball to the fielder at short third man. The opening batter had to walk back for 12 off five.

With this, Rohit became only the third opener in IPL history to slam two sixes of his first two balls in an IPL innings. The elusive feat has been achieved only by his compatriots Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal prevuously.

Earlier in the afternoon, the visitors won the toss and sent MI in with the bat. The joint-most successful franchise made a couple of changes to their XI. Karn Sharma and Corbin Bosch came in for Mitchell Santner and Vignesh Puthur. As for LSG, Mayank came in for Shardul Thakur.

LSG got the better of MI when the sides had met in Lucknow earlier in the season. The hosts claimed victory by 12 runs in a game where MI failed to track down the 204-run target. Digvesh Rathi was awared the Player of the Match accolade for his miserly four-over spell of 1/21. Interestingly, Rohit did not feature in this game.
