What was supposed to be a record which was believed to be unsurmountable, at least in the near future, was almost toppled over by the batting lineup of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who absolutely clobbered the hapless bowlers of the Delhi Capitals in Match 16 of IPL 2024, being played in Visakhapatnam, ultimately falling only a maximum away to emboss their name in the history books of the IPL.

The bulk of the reason for KKR to end up on the score they ended up with was courtesy of Sunil Narine's blistering knock of 85 (39), infused with seven fours and as many sixes. This was his highest score in the IPL, surpassing his previous highest (75) in some style. With the ball, he was miserly to say the least, only conceding 29 in his quota along with picking up a wicket, which eventually earned him his 14th Player of the Match in IPL, placing himself on level terms with the likes of fellow compatriots Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard and Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

A few hours before KKR's fixture vs DC, he caught the attention of fans for quite an eccentric reason, as he shared an Instagram post from an unverified handle on his story, which wrongly quoted Narine saying that he liked scoring runs in big numbers against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru due to the weak bowling department which the franchise possesses, all of which was written in Hindi. Even after the completion of the match against DC, he didn't delete the story, stirring a sentiment of comic relief among social media users.

Notably, Narine had scored a quickfire 47 off 22 to set the tone for his team who chased down the 183-run target quite comfortably at the end, with seven wickets and 19 deliveries to spare.
