India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, and India women’s wicketkeeper-batter, Yastika Bhatia witnessed India A and India B in action in the Duleep Trophy 2024 game. For the unversed, Suryakumar is in Bengaluru at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), recuperating from a hand injury. Coincidentally, the Duleep Trophy 2024 game is taking place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Suryakumar injured his hand during Mumbai’s game against the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) XI in the Buchi Babu tournament. Due to this mishap, he missed the first game of the Duleep Trophy first round for India C. On the other hand, Yastika is continuing rehab at NCA ahead of the impending T20 World Cup 2024 in UAE. The southpaw is named in the women’s squad for the marquee event, subject to fitness.

Suryakumar has had a fantastic career so far in T20Is. He held the world number-one rank in the batter’s list for almost a year. He was part of the Indian team for the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, his catch to dismiss David Miller in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa is immortalised in fans' memories. Meanwhile, the batter showed his urge to flourish in red-ball cricket and make the most out of his peak form.

"What is in my power right now is to play the Buchi Babu tournament, go on to play the Duleep Trophy and then see what happens," he had said. "But yes, I'm really looking forward. There are ten Test matches lined up (in India's international season at home) and I'm obviously excited for some red-ball fun,” said Suryakumar a few weeks back, as quoted by TOI.

India's next assignment is a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting from September 19 in Chennai.
