Afghanistan seamer Naveen-ul-Haq is having a great season in IPL 2023 as he’s the joint third-highest wicket-taker for Lucknow Super Giants. The 23-year-old has managed to outfox batters on numerous occasions and claim wickets for his side at crucial junctures of the game. With Lucknow’s next game being four days away, the youngster was seen enjoying his time off the field and relishing the taste of mangoes in his hotel room.
The young seamer recently shared a photograph of his room’s television, where he can be seen watching Match 54 of the ongoing tournament between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), being played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The photograph also included some mangoes kept on a plate in front of him as the cricketer was having a great time feasting on them while watching the game.
Naveen shared the photograph on his Instagram story with the caption ‘Sweet Mango's’.
Notably, Naveen has picked seven wickets in five matches in the ongoing season so far at an average of 14 and an economy of over six. He registered identical figures of 3/30 in four overs against Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively.
Despite his good show with the ball so far, the seam bowler was dropped from LSG’s last fixture against Gujarat Titans as the team needed Quinton de Kock as an opener following an injury to KL Rahul.
Apart from his magnificent bowling display, Naveen has made headlines for his on-field behaviour as well, as he got involved in an altercation with star batter Virat Kohli during Match 43 of the season. The incident further led to LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir having a go at Kohli after the game as tempers flared on the field.
Naveen-ul-Haq was fined 50% of his match fee after verbal duel with Kohli
The Kabul-born seamer was fined 50% of his match fee while Kohli and Gambhir were each fined 100% of their match fee. Following the on-field controversy, Naveen posted some cryptic Instagram stories which people related to the verbal duel with Kohli.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old will get another chance to play in the ongoing season as LSG have been forced to change their team combination since their captain KL Rahul has been ruled out of the tournament.
