India registered a hard-fought five-run win via DLS method over Bangladesh in their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 encounter at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, November 2. This victory has not only given the Indian team valuable two points but have also brought them a step closer to the semis berth.

More importantly, India survived a scare from Litton Das who at one point in time was single-handedly threatening to take the game away from them with his batting pyrotechnics that saw Bangladesh surpass 50 runs just before the Powerplay overs.

Arshdeep Singh holds his nerves in the final over

Batting first India lost the wicket off skipper Rohit Sharma for just two runs against his name before KL Rahul and Virat Kohli carried out the rescue act with a 67-run second wicket stand. Rahul roared back to form scoring 50 runs off 32 deliveries.

Once he was dismissed, Kohli got good support from Suryakumar Yadav who scored a vital 16-ball 30 before being castled by Shakib Al Hasan. Virat then took care of the Indian innings and went on to register another T20I fifty. He scored an unbeaten 64 runs off 44 balls as India finished at 184/6. Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh with figures of 3/47.

In reply, Bangladesh put the pressure back on India when Litton Das went berserk in the Powerplay overs. The Bangladesh Tigers were in a commanding position at 66/0 after seven overs before there was a short rain delay.

When play resumed Bangladesh had to chase a revised target of 151 from 16 overs. However, the pressure seemed to have got the better of the chasing team and it all started to show up when Litton Das needlessly ran himself out attempting a risky second run and walked back for a 60-ball 27.

The Indian bowlers then picked up wickets at regular intervals, but Bangladesh were just not ready to give up as Taskin Ahmed and Nurul Hasan kept on fighting till the very end.

The onus was on Arshdeep Singh to defend 20 runs and even though he did concede a six and a four in the final over, he held on to his nerves and gave away 14 runs as the Bangladeshis eventually fell short despite victory being within a touching distance. Arshdeep and Hardik Pandya were the picks of the Indian bowlers with two scalps each.
