Sri Lanka and UAE faced each other in the sixth game of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Both teams were in a must-win situation after losing to Namibia and Netherlands in their respective opening games. After being put in to bat first, the Dasun Shanaka-led side posted 152 runs on the board in their 20 overs. Karthik Meiyappan was the star for the UAE picking up a sensational hattrick.
However, Pathum Nissanka was the man for Sri Lanka who slammed 74 runs off 60 balls helping his side go past the 150-run mark. Interestingly, during his enterprising knock, the right-hander lost his balance in the 18th over and hilariously fell off while playing a shot.
Zahoor Khan was entrusted to deliver the over and he bowled a slower one outside off first up. Nissanka, looking to up the ante, shuffled a long way and put in a lot of power to heave it over short fine leg. The ball went for four but the batter lost his balance and tumbled while also losing his shoe.

Karthik Meiyappan's hattrick stuns Sri Lanka
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka were stunned by leg-spinner Karthik Meiyappan with his excellent bowling in the 15th over of the innings. The islanders were sitting pretty at 114/2 after 14 overs but the leggie wrecked havoc picking up wickets of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka off consecutive deliveries. Sri Lanka could only add 38 runs in their last six overs courtesy of brilliant team effort in the second half of the innings by UAE.
The innings ended with a fantastic catch from Basil Hameed off the penultimate delivery of the final over. Hameed leapt to his right while fielding at mid-off to pluck a stunner even as Sri Lanka ended their innings at 152/8 after 20 overs. Apart from Meiyappan, Zahoor Khan bowled superbly returning with the figures of 2/26.
