Zimbabwe produced arguably one of the most sensational upsets at the T20 World Cup 2022 as they handed Babar Azam-led Pakistan a loss in a last-ball thriller. The Asian giants found themselves in a similar position just as they were placed in the previous match against team India, losing for the second time in a row in the final ball.

Pakistan required three runs off the last ball and just as they were on the cusp of registering their first win in the marquee tournament, the Zimbabweans kept calm under pressure and displayed excellent fielding skills. Following the thrilling victory, the African nation was overjoyed as they had just won the match by a run.

Pommie Mbangwa’s animated commentary against Pakistan

While it was heartbreak on the ‘green side’, Zimbabwe on the other hand, had much to celebrate over the historic win over a heavyweight side. In the final ball, former Zimbabwean pacer Pommie Mbangwa's spine-tingling commentary won a lot of hearts around the world as it perfectly conveyed the emotions of the moment.

“Here’s Evans, its gonna be one, will it be two? It won’t be, because… ooh! Man, oh man! Heart-stopping stuff I tell ya but what a victory for Zimbabwe. They were gone, probably dead and half buried at the halfway stage, but somehow with those tall bowlers and the bounce here at Perth and with Raza in the middle with three, they’ve fought and fought and managed to get home!” said an animated Mbangwa during the final ball thriller.

Zimbabwe are currently standing third on the table with three points after their first two fixtures. On the other hand, Pakistan are yet to register a win down under in the showpiece event and their case for the semi-final spot appears to be slipping away following the loss against Zimbabwe. The side is almost on the brink of a virtual knockout but will hope to win every match from now and will be dependent on the results of other teams in the group.
