T20 World Cup 2022: Rishabh Pant spotted with heavy strapping, ice pack on knee during India's warm-up match against Australia
Rishabh Pant didn't feature in any capacity against Australia in the warm-up game.
Even though no news of injury has been shared by the Indian Cricket Team, Rishabh Pant was spotted with heavy strapping and an ice pack on his right knee during the second innings of the warm-up match between India and Australia. Despite playing both the warm-up games against Western Australia in Perth, the southpaw was not considered for the match against Australia in Brisbane.
Team India is already dealing with Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar’s injuries at the moment and if Rishabh Pant’s injury is considered a major one, it indeed will be a huge blow for the Men in Blue. However, he was spotted in a cheerful mood throughout as he was sitting with Mohammed Shami.
Pant’s availability against New Zealand in India’s second warm-up match is still unclear. In the meantime, Dinesh Karthik failed to capitalize after a good start as he was dismissed for 20 after 14 deliveries. With that, India posted a total of 186 runs in 20 overs.
Harshal Patel and Mohammed Shami stun Australia as India beat Australia by 6 runs
At a time when Australia were the favourites to pick up a win against India, the Men in Blue showed a lot of character and self-belief to pick up a major win ahead of the T20 World Cup. With 16 required from two overs, captain Rohit Sharma brought Harshal Patel into the attack, who picked up the crucial wicket of Aaron Finch in the very first ball of the 19th over. Finch, who was batting at 76, was completely bamboozled with a slower yorker while in the following ball, Josh Inglis was sent back to the pavilion after a run-out.
After a terrific over from Patel, Australia needed 11 in the last over and captain Rohit Sharma out of no where brought Mohammed Shami into the attack. Shami didn’t play a single competitive game ever since his comeback and didn’t bowl a single over in the same match too until this point. Despite that, the captain showed his confidence in Shami as he picked up three wickets in four balls to produce one of the epic comebacks of team India in the recent past.
