T20 World Cup 2022: Rohit Sharma compares thrill of tournament to famous series Game of Thrones

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup commenced on Sunday, October 16, with Sri Lanka, the reigning Asia Cup champions, falling to Namibia in an unexpected loss. The Netherlands then defeated the UAE by three wickets in a low-scoring thriller. The Super 12 stage will begin the following Sunday where the finalists of the T20 World Cup 2021- Australia and New Zealand- will lock horns.

A day later, Team India will face Pakistan, on October 23, to begin their campaign at the tournament. Each of the 16 captains engaged in a major presser in Melbourne prior to the commencement of the tournament in Australia. Before the press conference started, the organizers questioned India captain Rohit Sharma about the setup in the room where all the captains had gathered.

Rohit replied saying, “Yaa it's pretty cool actually, just a Game of Thrones kind of feel.”

Later, ICC posted that video with an amazing twist. The video started with Rohit Sharma’s comment, and it then had the other team’s skippers in the frame, with the Game of Thrones theme song as the background music. The video ended with a short glimpse of the trophy that all the 16 captains are eyeing for at the event.

Rohit Sharma all set for the India-Pakistan rivalry 

India and Pakistan will open their campaign at this World Cup on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Exactly an year ago, at the T20 World Cup last year, India had suffered a humiliating 10-wicket loss against bitter nemesis Pakistan. Since then, the two teams have faced each other twice, and both their encounters were at the recent Asia Cup 2022. While India won the first game in the group stage, Pakistan won the second contest, which was a Super Four fixture.

“I don’t believe in last-minute decisions. We want to keep our boys informed about team selection before so that they can prepare early. I already have my XI for the Pakistan match. Already, those players are informed. I don’t believe in a last-minute thing. I want them to prepare well,” Sharma had said during the press meet.
