T20 World Cup 2022: Virat Kohli plucks a one-handed blinder at long-on to dismiss Pat Cummins
It happened in the last over when the game went down to the wire.
India and Australia faced each other in the warm-up game at the Gabba in Brisbane on Monday (October 17). The Men in Blue were under the scanner coming into the game having lost to the Western Australia XI in the warm-up game earlier. The game witnessed a lot of sensational performances by different players but it was Virat Kohli who stood out among everyone on the field.
While he ran-out Tim David first in the 19th over, Kohli's antics on the field were yet to come in the final over of the innings. With things going close, Rohit Sharma summoned Mohammed Shami out of nowhere to defend 11 runs. Pat Cummins churned out four runs off first two deliveries to bring the equation down to seven runs off 4 balls.
The third ball was in the zone for the batter as Cummins smashed a low full toss down the ground. The ball seemed set to go over the boundary line for a six only for Virat Kohli to time his jump and sensationally pluck a one-handed blinder. It was a stunning effort from the former India skipper that turned the game on its head and eventually India went on to win the game by six runs.
Mohammed Shami shines in the final over
As for the match, Australia seemed to be coasting home at one stage. However, some brilliant death bowling from India meant that the hosts struggled to end the game on a high. Interestingly, after not bowling in the entire game, Shami was handed the ball to deliver in the final over.
The man who replaced Jasprit Bumrah in the World Cup squad bowled same like the latter dishing out yorkers after yorkers and impressed everyone with his bowling. Shami ended up picking up three wickets in the last over to bundle out Australia for 180 runs.
