T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan star Shaheen Afridi relishes his knock against USA on Television, video goes viral
As all other batters failed to score big, it was pacer Shaheen Afridi who provided the late boost.
Team Pakistan (PAK) were rattled by United States of America (USA) in their first T20 World Cup 2024 game in Dallas, on June 5. The defeat is being termed as one of the biggest upsets as the American side is playing their first major tournament with a tag of an associate nation. After putting Pakistan to bat first, the USA bowlers were all over Pakistan batters as they plucked three wickets within the fifth over.
Babar Azam’s inning was much criticised as he fetched just nine runs in the first 23 balls he faced. In the end, he could manage just 44 runs in 43 deliveries against a disciplined USA bowling. As all other batters failed to score big, it was pacer Shaheen Afridi who provided the late boost. He scored a quick 23 off 16 balls while batting at number eight. After the game, Shaheen was seen relishing his rare knock in the hotel room watching highlights of the game.

USA played better than us in all three departments: Babar
Babar has been subjected to intense scrutiny following his decisions on the field against USA. The Pakistan skipper made Mohammad Amir bowl the Super Over as he leaked 18 runs. Amir was playing international cricket after almost four years of hiatus. He then sent Fakhar Zaman and Iftikhar Ahmed in the Super Over to chase and neither he nor Mohammad Rizwan made it to the crease.
“First 6 overs while batting we didn’t capitalise. Back to back wickets always put you on the back foot, as a batter you need to step up and build partnerships. We were not up to the mark in the first 6 overs with the ball. Our spinners also did not take wickets in the middle overs so these things cost us. Very hard, all credit to USA, they played better than us in all three departments. Little bit of moisture in the pitch, it was also two-paced. As a professional you need to assess the conditions,” said Babar during the post-match presentation.
