India and Australia faced each other in the 11th Super Eights match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on Monday, June 24. Mitchell Marsh called it correctly at the toss and chose to bowl first. India walked onto the field without making any changes in their XI, but Australia brought in Mitchell Starc for Ashton Agar.

Being put in to bat first, Virat Kohli (0 off 5) found himself back in the dugout in the second over of the match, putting India in a precarious situation. But the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (92 off 41) kept the runs flowing as he was looking at his usual best.

The right-hand batter in the third over smashed 29 runs off Mitchell Starc's bowling, taking India's score to 60 runs under six overs.  A failure by in-form Rishabh Pant didn't stop the scoring rate for the Indian team. Suryakumar Yadav (31 off 16) and Shivam Dube (28 off 22) provided India the late flourish along with allrounder Hardik Pandya (27* off 17) as India posted 205/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Australia determined to start aggressively in the chase, but Arshdeep Singh broke the floodgates open by picking up the first wicket of veteran David Warner. His partner Travis Head was again looking to give India another upset in an ICC event and almost took the game away till the 16-over mark. The left-hander smashed a brilliant 76 runs, lacing his innings with nine boundaries and four sixes. Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 24) played a crucial role in the middle overs, controlling the run-scoring rate and creating pressure on the opposing batters.

He got rid of the Australian skipper and dangerous Glenn Maxwell. Arshdeep was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball, claiming three important wickets with Jasprit Bumrah claiming one. Eventually, India won the game as Australia fell short by 24 runs. Sharma & Co. continued their unbeaten run in the tournament and qualified for the semi-finals after getting the better of Australia. India will take on former champions, England on June 27 in Guyana.
