India and Bangladesh faced each other in their seventh Super Eights match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Saturday, June 22. Najmul Hossain Shanto called it correctly at the toss and chose to bowl first. India walked onto the field without making any changes in their XI, but the Bengal Tigers brought in Jaker Ali for experienced pacer Taskin Ahmed.

India's innings began strongly with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opening. Rohit, made a quick 23 runs from 11 balls before Shakib Al Hasan dismissed him. At the end of the powerplay, India had reached 53/1. Kohli, partnering with wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, then took charge to take India to the driving seat.

Despite his previous struggles in the tournament, Kohli found his form, scoring 37 runs off 28 deliveries. Suryakumar Yadav, batting at number four, started aggressively with a six off his first ball. However, he lost his wicket on the very next delivery. Pant, who had built a promising innings, attempted a risky reverse sweep and was dismissed for 36 runs, cutting short his efforts to post a substantial score.

However, a 53-run partnership ensued between Shivam Dube (34 off 24) and Hardik Pandya (50* off 27) to provide a platform for an above-par score. Pandya turned out to be the highest scorer of the innings, as he smashed his third T20I half-century, lacing his innings with four boundaries and three sixes. A late flourish from the lower order took the score to 196/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2/32) and Rishad Hossain(2/43) were the standout bowlers. Shakib Al Hasan was the other wicket-taker finishing with figures of 1/37.

Bangladesh started their run chase confidently, with openers Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan facing the new ball effectively. They stitched a solid 35-run partnership for the first wicket. Das was the first to depart, having contributed 13 runs to the total.

Captain Shanto then joined Hasan at the crease, and the pair attempted to construct a substantial inning. However, their efforts were cut short by Kuldeep Yadav's skillful googly. This delivery dismissed Hasan, who had to leave the field after scoring 29 runs.

Towhid Hridoy (04 off 06), Shakib Al Hasan (11 off 07), Mahmudullah (13 off 15), and Jaker Ali (01 off 04) tried to revive the innings at different stages, but their efforts were not enough as the team kept on losing wickets at crucial junctures.
