Namibia took on Oman in Match 3 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 3. Namibia won the toss and opted to bowl first. Ruben Trumplemann dismantled the top order of Oman, sending their top three back to hut within the powerplay. Zeeshan Maqsood, Khalid Kail, and Ayaan Khan scored 22, 34, and 15 runs, respectively. Oman posted a below-par 109 runs losing all their wickets.

While chasing, Nikolaas Davin and Jan Frylinck displayed some responsible batting after losing Michael van Lingen on the second ball. Frylinck’s 45 runs was the highest score of the match and it helped Namibia to take the game closer. With five needed off the final over, Frylinck was cleaned up by Mehran Khan. Mehran went on to defend the five runs and the game went into Super Over. This was the first Super Over in T20 World Cups since 2012.

David Weise owns the Super Over to get Namibia going

Batting first, Namibia fielded David Weise and Gerhard Erasmus. The duo put up a whopping 21 runs on the board off Bilal Khan and Namibia sensed victory. In reply. Oman batters Zeeshan Maqsood and Aqib Ilyas were contained by some tight bowling by Weise. The duo mustered just 10 runs in the Super Over and Namibia won their first game comprehensively.

“In the Super Over we proved that there are runs to be had if you just assess the pitch well and take responsibility. (On Wiese bowling Super Over) David was up in the change room and he was very clear that he wanted to bowl the Super Over. (On the win) Happy to break the duck and get through in this tournament. We were very excited to come here and play in this competition, hopefully, we can continue this form,” said Erasmus, Namibia Captain, in the post-match presentation.
